Mora Johnson is a lawyer, consultant, and a leading expert in responsible business practices.  Mora proudly serves the Ottawa community as well as clients around the world.  Her interests include anti-corruption and anti-money laundering compliance, the human rights responsibilities of business, and modern slavery supply chain due diligence. 

Mora brings to client files almost 20 years’ rich and diverse experience in government, private and non-profit sectors.  Mora served for over 10 years at Global Affairs Canada and then Natural Resources Canada in negotiating and implementing regulatory and voluntary standards relating to transparency and business practices in the extractive sector.  She advised on standards such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, the Voluntary Principles, and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative. She served as Head of the Canadian delegation to the OECD Working Group on Bribery, and later to the OECD Forum on Responsible Supply Chains. In 2011, she was elected to co-chair the negotiation process of a Conflict Gold Standard at the OECD, and from 2012-2015 was elected to Chair the OECD Forum on Responsible Supply Chains.  Earlier, Mora served as Legislative Assistant to the Foreign Minister and later to the Minister of International Trade, and as the Executive Assistant to the Chair of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.

Outside of government, Mora served as Executive Director of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center located in New Haven, Connecticut, as well as clerking in the Office of the Prosecutor, Special Court for Sierra Leone.  She articled at one of Canada’s largest law firms and studied law at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, where she won an award for ranking 3rd in a class of 180 in the graduating year.
